Who is eligible to audition?
The Chorus welcomes boys and girls ages 7 through 16 years old for its choral music education and performance program.
When and where do auditions take place?
The Chorus is holding auditions on Thursday, September 9, 2010, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Dr. in Elgin. You may fill out the audition form or call 847-931-SING to schedule an audition.
How do I schedule an audition?

Is there an audition fee?
No. There is no charge.
If you are accepted, how much will my tuition be?
For children who are accepted into the Chorus for the 2010-2011 season, tuition is $360 our third year with no tuition increase. There is a $10 charge for dress rehearsal shirt and the cost of the uniform is about $100. Scholarships are available. We accept checks or credit cards and installment plans are available. Upon acceptance in the Chorus you may request a partial tuition Scholarship Application from the Chorus office by calling 847-931-SING.
What happens during the audition?
Auditins are easy going and children do not need to read music. You will meet with our conducting staff. You will audition with several other children for about twenty minutes. You will be asked to sing the first line of My Country 'tis of Thee and will sing a round such as "Row, row, row, your boat". You will answer a few questions about music.
How should I prepare?
No special preparation is necessary for the audition. It is suggested that you simply get a good night's rest and be relaxed.
How will I learn whether or not I was accepted?
We will notify you of your acceptance by email.
When will I rehearse?
Rehearsals for all choirs are held on Monday evenings at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Dr. in Elgin. Your rehearsal time depends on which choir you are placed in.
How many choirs do you have?
The Chorus has five choirs from beginning to advanced.
The Treble Choir is an entry level choir. Singers develop their ability to sing in tune. Unison singing and ensemble skills are emphasized. Treble Choir rehearses from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in room 168M.
The Intermezzo Choir is an intermediate group. In-tune singing in more difficult two part music is developed. These singers develop sight singing skills, a growing understanding of vocal tone production and rehearsal focus. Intermezzo Choir rehearses from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in room 165M.
The Concert Choir is the largest and principal performing ensemble. These singers focus on the more advanced elements of musicianship with increased attention to blend and intonation through preparation of more difficult literature.
Chamber Choir is a select group of singers from within the Concert Choir. These singers learn advanced choral techniques and accelerated sight reading skills.
Boys Ensemble composed of all the boys in the Chorus. The Boys Ensemble performs on our March Concert. The Boys Ensemble meets a few extra minutes near the end of regular rehearsals (3 times before December and weekly January through March).
The Elgin Community College Connection?
The Elgin Children's Chorus is an in-residence ensemble at Elgin Community College. Students age 16 years or older will receive college credit for enrollment in performing arts college transfer courses. Students under 16 years old will be enrolled in non-credit courses. Students under age 16 may enroll in credit classes if they are part of a gifted or accelerated program, with the written permission of their principal or counselor.
Ticket Patrons Services to Special Needs
Accessible seating, parking, and restrooms are available. Listening enhancement devices are also available for the hearing-impaired. Notify the Box Office of your special needs or seating requirements at the time of purchase.
Ticket Refund and Exchange Policy
All ticket sales are final. If you cannot use your tickets, you may donate them to the Elgin Children's Chorus or exchange them for another Elgin Children's Chorus performance. Additional service charges may apply. Exchanges or ticket donations must be made at the Box Office not later than 90 minute before the event.
